Day 4

Current diaper: Attends
Diaper Status: WET
Currnet Time: 9:45PM

Late post today... just got home.

I slept in this morning... stayed in bed till about 8:30. Pretty late considering I normally get up at 4. Once I was up I had some breakfast and just lazied around the house still in my Secure night diaper till about 11. I then showered and changed into an Attends so I could head over and meet my buddy. I didn't know how long I would be over there so I took my diaper bag and 3 clean diapers with me.

We did a good bit of work... installed motor mounts, lighting, and finished up with some painting. It was plenty hot out and I was all over, under, and inside the cars. But I was decently comfortable. We had plenty of water to drink so I had wet 3 times by 5:00 when I realized that I needed a change. So I grabbed my diaper bag out of the trunk, told my buddy I'd be back in a minute, and slipped into the guest bathroom to change.

You don't realise how long it takes to perform a diaper change until you've done it somewhere besides the comfort of your own home. I first washed my hands, then took off my shoes, pants, and the briefs I was using as a diaper cover (to minimize noise). As I was untaping the diaper I realised how loud the sound of the tapes coming off was, and hoped that noone was standing right outside the door. I rolled up the used diaper then pulled out two wipes from my bag and proceeded to clean myself. Being all hot and sweaty a cool wipe felt pretty good. Once that was completed I laid out my clean diaper on the toilet lid and sprinkled some powder into it. Again I noticed the sounds of the tapes as I put the diaper on and adjusted them for the perfect fit.

Now wearing a fresh diaper I put the rest of my clothes back on, placed the dirty diaper and wipes into a ziploc bag and put that along with my powder and wipes container back into my diaper bag. I then washed my hands again, and stepped back outside. The whole thing took maybe 5 mins... I'll have to remember to time it when I do it again. My friend didn't say anything when I walked back out and put my diaper bag back in the trunk. He was either too busy to notice, or was polite enough not to poke into my personal business. Whatever the case, it works for me.Once the cars were done we had some dinner and watched TV for a bit, then I headed home.

A productive day overall that has me currently thinking not to worry so much about others noticing that I am diapered. I try to put myself in their place. Do I really go up and ask "Hey dude, are you wearing a diaper?" or "What's in that bag?"No... it's very rude and awkward. What kind of answer do you really expect? If questioned about the bag I plan to just say that it contains personal items, and leave it at that. Most people would probably be embarassed enough about getting that answer that they won't pry further. Odds are if someone straight up asks if I am wearing a diaper they either wear them too, or know someone else who does. At that point admitting to it and simply saying that I don't feel comfortable talking about it should suffice to settle the situation. Getting into areas like that is much like asking someone in a wheelchair how they got that way, it's not proper manners.

My plans for tomorrow involve cleaning up some around the apartment here and finishing the paintwork I started today. I might even hop down to the cheap-o theater with my girlfriend and catch a movie later on. I'll post more tomorrow.

Thanks for reading!

Day 3

Current diaper: Attends
Diaper status: Dry
Current time: 3:50PM Local

Well... another day at work in the books. TGIF! Weekend here I come!

Work today went well, right up to the last 30 mins or so. I tried to manage my fluid intake as best as I could all day, and despite sweating a lot the Attends I put on this morning held up quite well. It was decently comfortable throughout the day, but it did start to sag as wetness and actitivy increased. I did my best to only wet a little at a time so I could maximize the diaper's absorbancy... but it reached the limit at about 1:00. I could tell from the feeling between my legs that it just wasn't gonna take any more. I didn't feel like changing right then and there b/c I like to come straight in from work and take a shower, so I had to live with a soggy and sagging diaper for the last half hour of work and the ride home. It did leak just a bit around my back end when I sat down in the car to head home, making two little spots on the back pockets of my pants. Luckily they were camo shorts so the spots just blended in. No huge deal right then, but it could be problematic if I have anywhere to go after work.

From this I have decided that I have two options when it comes to wearing Attends at work.

1) Don't worry about the fluid intake, and change around 11 so I don't have to worry about leaks.
2) Try to control the fluid intake a bit more, and change when I get home.

Either will work depending on the circumstances of the day, so I think I'm just gonna base my desicions on how much physical activity I perform throughout the workday. More activity = change early. Less activity = change at home. Just another aspect of how diapers make you schedule and plan out your life a bit more... which I am finding very interesting.

Cost Analysis:
Time to throw some real world numbers on this. I have used 8 diapers so far... counting the one I have on now. 5 Secures and 3 Attends. The Secures come in a case of 48 for $61.95... so they cost $1.29 per diaper. Attends come in a case of 88 for $66.95... so they cost $0.76 per diaper. At this moment I have used $8.73 worth of diapers.

However I have come to the realization that 1 Secure is equal to 2 Attends in terms of absorbancy... so if I were having to choose a diaper for value alone it would definately be the Secures. Two Attends come to $1.52... so I suppose I'm paying the extra $0.23 for comfort, as the Attends are much more comfortable for active wear. Honestly the Attends are worth the extra money for the daytime.

It's gonna be another night of relaxing infront of the TV for me... but then it's off to my buddy's place to work on the cars tomorrow. Installing a shifter along with some paint work I believe is gonna be the order of the day. I'm gonna have to take a couple of changes with me as I don't know how long I'm gonna be over there. I'll just have to see if he notices anything different.

That's all for now. I appreciate the comments so far, and I see that a decent number of people have voted in the polls. Please feel free to leave your comments... positive or negative, as I believe everyone is entitled to their opinions.

Thanks!

Attends

Current diaper: Attends
Diaper status: SOAKED
Current time: 7:00PM

Just thought I'd make a quick update while I'm on my way to change. The Attends have held up decently well. This one took 2 good sized wettings and several smaller trickles before becoming saturated. Even when completely full the diaper is still pretty comfortable, and even though it's thin the Attends does a good job of keeping moisture locked in and away from my skin.

All 6 tapes held just fine and the padding didn't seem to sag or clump up too badly when wet. The plastic covering on these is semi-loose as compared to the Secures where it is stretched tightly, so the Attends do crinkle quite profusely as you move around. If anyone's heard a baby toddle around the house with the tell-tale sound of a plastic diaper... that is exactly it. Every move you make you get some noise. I figure puting a pair of briefs or boxers on over the diaper will silence that well enough. I'll find out tomorrow.

That's it for today... I'm off to get cleaned up yet again and enjoy my 1 hour of "airing out" time before I change for bed.

Day 2

Current diaper: Attends
Diaper status: DRY
Current time: 2:10PM Local

Well... it's been an alright day so far.

Last night was pretty uneventful... and this morning went just fine by following the routine I set up yesterday. Yes that means I had another messy diaper, but I figure if I do this enough I'll get used to it and it won't bother me as much.

Work was very hot today... and humid too. I wore another Secure this morning, the last time I'm gonna wear one of those in the daytime. As work was so warm I ended up drinking a lot of water... and sweating a lot... and wetting a lot. So my Secure was completely soaked my the time I clocked out at 1:30.

It feels wierd to say it, but as much as I enjoy wearing diapers I was very ready to take that one off and get cleaned up by the time I got home. It felt like I was walking around with a damp towel rolled up and stuffed between my legs. If I was a baby, I would have been crying at that point... it was really that bad. Further examination of the diaper at home revealed that the padding was saturated from the front all the way between my legs and 2/3 of the way up the back. It did a great job at absorbing but I probably couldn't have used it again without it leaking.

I took a shower as soon as I got in, then grabbed one of the Attends out of the new case (my first) and taped it on. My initial impression was how thin they are compared to the Secures. I knew they were, but the feeling is really much different than I thought it would be. If I had my regular street clothes on over these, I might actually forget I had one on.

They have 3 tapes per side instead of two which insures a snug and comfortable fit, less padding means you don't waddle when you walk and clothes fit much better. However, the Attends do crinkle MUCH more than the Secures, so there's no denying that I have a diaper on. I'm also sure the reduction in padding will mean I have to change more often. Overall though... they almost feel like normal underwear after being in Secures for 2 days.

I'm having some lunch and a few drinks now... so I'll report back on how the Attends hold up later.

Day 1

Current diaper: Secure X-Plus
Diaper status: VERY WET
Current time: 2:00PM Local

Okay... just got in from work and I'm feeling fine. My Secure diaper from last night held up fine, so I decided to wear one to work today and really give it a good testing out. I must say I'm pleased. Other than feeling like I'm walking around with a towel rolled up and stuffed between my legs everything is good. It was a pretty tight squeeze getting my shorts on over the diaper though so if I'm gonna wear one of these in the daytime again I need to go with a slightly larger pair of pants. I did put a pair of briefs on over the diaper this morning to keep the plastic covering from rubbing directly against my jeans and possibly tearing. I will definately be doing that with any diaper I wear out of the house.

I have decided that it is best not to fight any urges I may get from my bladder, as holding it in only delays the inevitable by an hour or two, makes me very uncomfortable, and forces all the urine I have in me to come out in one rapid stream. This is not very good for the diaper as "flooding" can cause leaks even in the most absorbant ones. If I relax as soon as I get the slightest urge to go I can empty my bladder slowly over a minute or two and allow the diaper a decent amount of time to do its job. So far this method is working perfectly.

Popping back to last night for a moment... After diapering and posting I had some dinner and spent most of the evening watching TV... no suprise. I had wet in the Secure two times before I laid down to sleep (thanks to a beer and 2 glasses of lemonade with dinner) but I slept just fine, no issues at all. The Secure also held my morning pee (which is large and decently concentrated) without becoming flooded so I am confident that these diapers perform as advertised.

This morning was a bit interesting. I got up about 10 minutes earlier than I normally would, just incase any situations arose. I was walking to the bathroom planning on a shower when it dawned on me that I would have to re-do my entire morning routine in order to avoid a potentially serious problem. My normal work-day morning consists of showering, then getting dressed, eating breakfast, brushing my teeth, packing lunch, and finally using the toilet for my "morning constitutional" before heading out the door to work. My bowels take about 20 minutes to really wake up and get things going, so that would have caused a major problem if I had gone through my schedule as usual. As I would have already been in a clean diaper and fully dressed when the urge hit. Dispite my desire to save the unplesantness for later I didn't exactly feel like fighting my gut and having gas all day so I decided to just let it happen and then worry about the clean up.

So, I went and first had breakfast, then brushed my teeth, packed my lunch, and laid out my clothes. This activity "got things moving" so to speak so I was able to have my bowel movement into my now soaked diaper, then shower and get dressed for work. Cleaning off in the shower was easy, so this will definately be my procedure from now on.

I also took a moment this morning to put together my diaper bag. Since I was wearing a thick diaper to work I only packed one fresh change. I also packed a plastic baggie for any "dirties"along with some powder and wipes to clean off with should the need to change arise. I tossed all of this into my old school book-bag and put it in the car, hoping noone would think anything of me walking into work with this extra item.

Thankfully, the Secure performed admirably and as of this minute I have not changed yet. After wetting it 3 times at work it is still holding strong and I believe it will stand up to another 1 or 2 wettings before it becomes fully saturated. I fully intend to find out.

I do need to run out to the store and pick up a few things before dinner, so I will keep my diaper bag in the car with me just incase.

That's all for now.

The beginning.

Current diaper: Secure X-Plus http://securepersonalcare.com/xplus-briefs.html
Diaper status: DRY
Time: 6:30PM Local.

Well, after a few days of waiting around and considering I finally decided to throw caution to the wind and start this. I began by spending a short spell on the toilet, my last time for the next several days. I mainly did this to make sure I was all emptied out, but it also provided a few moments for reflection on my mission... and I am determined to see it through. I then proceeded into the bedroom closet, opened up my diaper drawer, and grabbed one. At first it didn't seem much different than any of the other times I've gone in there and gotten a diaper just for fun, but now that I'm sitting here taped into it I can definately feel that something is about to change.

My plan is simple: To become "functionally incontinent" and explore exactly what it means to be diaper dependant. To this end I will wear adult diapers and use them for all my toileting needs over a period of atleast the next two weeks. During this time I will be documenting my thoughts and feelings through this blog so that I can later determine if anything about my life has changed as a result of my self-imposed condition. I hope this blog will also serve as a guidepost for any others that may be brave (or foolish) enough to follow in my footsteps.

The ground rules are as follows.

1) I will be wearing a diaper for 23 hours out of the day. This will allow me one hour of "freedom" in which to air out my skin a bit so hopefully it won't get too irritated.

2) I will not be using the toilet AT ALL for the next two weeks. All my elimination needs will be put into the diaper. I am prepared for this to get a bit... messy.

3) The diaper will not be changed until it is either saturated or "dirty." Changing beforehand would only waste diapers, which aren't cheap.

4) During this time, I will strive to live my life as I normally would. I will not decline from participating in an activity with my friends/family simply because I am diapered. I will be wearing diapers to work, which is not air-conditioned and may become quite warm. This is all part of the territory.

I have laid in supplies of two types of adult diapers. Attends http://www.xpmedical.com/attends.html and
Secure X-Plus http://securepersonalcare.com/xplus-briefs.html

While both of these are very high quality products, each has its own set of advantages and disadvantages.

The Attends are ideal for day-time activities. Not overly bulky and very comfortable. They fit well under my normal clothing and should be relatively easy to hide from the general public. However they are not "super-absorbant" and therefore will have to be changed at least twice during the day, possibly three times. This means carrying extra diapers, wipes, and powder/cream with me wherever I go. As well as a change of pants just incase they should leak.

The Secure X-Plus are perfectly suited for night-time wearing. They are "super-absorbant" and their tapes are refastenable many times to provide the best fit possible. Ideally, if I put one on in the evening (as I have just now) I should not have to change out of it until morning. The downside of these is that they are bulky and more difficult to conceal. They also retain more heat than the Attends and are a bit less comfortable.

So, there we have it. My plans for this evening are to find some dinner and get into bed at between 10 and 11. Work starts promptly at 5AM so I have to be up at 4 to get ready. I thank you all for reading, and my next post should be when I get off of work tomorrow.
